Create a US Micropolitan Statistical Area Map
You can easily create a U.S. Micropolitan Statistical Area map using Mapline. Created in 2003 for statistical purposes based on counties or county equivalents, micropolitan statistical areas are urban areas with a population of at least 10,000 but less than 50,000. United States have 576 micropolitan areas. The term “micropolitan” refers to population centers that are at least 160 km far away from larger cities. There are more housing subdivisions found in these areas because of lower land and labor costs.Using Mapline, you can easily create a U.S. Micropolitan Statistical Areas map. Micropolitan Statistical area boundaries are defined by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Some of these areas are larger than other metropolitan areas. The largest of such areas is found in Torrington, Connecticut. It has a population of 35,202.

Steps to Create a US Micropolitan Statistical Area Map
- Create a Mapline account and login.
- Click the orange “Add New Items” button.
- Select “New Map” on the drop down arrow.
- Give your map a name and click “OK.”
- Click the “Add” button from the left sidebar.
- Select the “Territories” option.
- Click “From Mapline’s Repository.”
- From the “Territories” select “U.S. Micropolitan Statistical Areas.”
- Select how you want your boundaries to be colored in “Fill Color” (Random Colors, Uniform Color, Dynamic heat map colors, or Custom colors from spreadsheet).
- Click “OK.”
