- DEMOGRAPHIC DATA
Demographic data allows you to layer population, income, household, and dwelling insights directly onto your dataset. Instead of manually gathering census reports or stitching together third-party data, Mapline calculates and applies demographic intelligence in seconds. This gives you a clearer understanding of market potential, customer density, and regional characteristics around your locations. Whether you’re planning territories, analyzing expansion opportunities, or prioritizing outreach, demographic data turns simple addresses into strategic insight. It’s data-driven context that helps you move from mapping locations to understanding opportunity.
WHAT IS DEMOGRAPHIC DATA?
Demographic data includes population statistics and socioeconomic characteristics tied to geographic areas. In Mapline, demographic data can be calculated based on a radius around your locations or applied to predefined territory boundaries. This allows you to measure the size, composition, and economic profile of the communities surrounding your stores, customers, or service areas. Demographic enrichment is especially valuable for market analysis, territory planning, retail site selection, and targeted marketing. Use it whenever location-based characteristics influence your business decisions.
Pro Tip: Add demographic insights to your map territories without leaving your map! Simply click the territory layer, select VIEW DATA, and create a new Geo-Enriched Data Column in your territory dataset. This is a fast, powerful way to visualize key market intelligence directly on your map.
ADD DEMOGRAPHIC DATA
To add demographic data, first select the country you’d like to analyze. Then choose the type of demographic calculation you want applied:
- Of the Radius Area Surrounding My Locations: Calculates demographic statistics within a defined radius around each location.
- Of a Territory Related to My Location: Applies demographic data to official or custom territory boundaries.
Then, select from the following types of demographic data:
POPULATION
Select which population categories you’d like to include in your dataset:
- Age + Gender: Population breakdown by age ranges and gender.
- Age + Gender + Veteran Status: Adds veteran classification to age and gender analysis.
- Ancestry: Population breakdown by ancestry origin.
- Educational Attainment of 25+ Year Olds: Education levels for adult populations.
- Foreign Born Place of Birth: Country-of-origin breakdown for foreign-born populations.
- Gender: Population distribution by gender.
- Veteran Status: Breakdown of veteran vs non-veteran populations.
Next, select the Census year you’d like to use (the most recent year typically provides the most accurate data). Choose your radius distance by entering a static number or selecting a dataset column dynamically. Click the blue + sign to exclude specific surrounding areas if needed. Finally, determine whether you want automatic or manual data refreshes, then click OK.
NUMBER OF HOUSEHOLDS
Select your desired household category:
- Children Present: Households with children.
- Family Size: Breakdown of households by number of members.

- Households: Total number of households.
- Seniors Present: Households with senior residents.
Select the desired Census year (most recent for highest accuracy), define your radius distance, and optionally exclude specific areas. Choose automatic or manual refresh settings, then click OK.
AVG HOUSEHOLD INCOME
Determine how you want income data calculated:
- Of the Radius Area Surrounding My Locations: Calculates average income within a defined radius.
- Of a Territory Related to My Location: Calculates average income for the entire territory.
Next, select the income categories you need:
- Average Income of All Households: Mean income across households.
- Householder Age: Income segmented by age of primary householder.
Select your Census year, radius distance, and define any areas to exclude. Choose manual or automatic refresh settings and click OK.
NUMBER OF DWELLINGS
Select how you want dwelling data applied:
- Of the Radius Area Surrounding My Locations: Calculates dwelling counts within a defined radius.
- Of a Territory Related to My Location: Applies dwelling counts to official boundaries.
Choose from the following dwelling categories:
- Count of Housing: Total number of housing units.
- Occupancy: Occupied vs vacant dwelling breakdown.
Select the Census year and radius distance. Exclude specific areas if necessary, choose refresh preferences, and click OK.
