Create segments from your Excel data in seconds for better analysis.
1. OPEN YOUR MAP
You can open your map by single clicking the name, double clicking anywhere on the row, or by single clicking on the row and clicking the "Open" button. If you don't have a map created, click on the "Add New Items" button. Then select, "New Map" and give it a name.
2. CLICK ON THE DATASET MENU
To access the dataset menu, left or right click anywhere on the dataset name, or hover over the row and click on the "Menu" button. If you don't have a dataset on your map, you can add one in seconds!
3. SELECT "SEGMENT"
Once the dataset menu is opened, click on "Segment." For a shortcut, once the Segment tool is added, you can access the menu by clicking on the arrows next to the map name, and then by clicking on the Segment icon.
4. CLICK "CREATE A NEW TIER"
Once the lightbox opens, click "Create a New Tier" to create a new segment. All active segments for a dataset will appear in the "Current Segment Tiers" section.
5. SELECT THE SEGMENT TYPE
You can create segments in two ways, "Qualitative" and "Quantitative." "Qualitative" is a great option if you want to separate your locations based on shared values, i.e. state, sales manager, etc. If you choose this type of segment, select the column that has the data you want to use to separate the locations. "Quantitative" will allow you to break your locations up into groups based on thresholds, i.e. sales over $30M.
6. USE FORMULAS TO CREATE SEGMENTS
If you choose to use the "Quantitative" option, you'll need to name your segment tier. Once there, select a name for each group you want created. Then, select a column from your dataset, choose one of the conditions in the dropdown, and input the values you want to include in each grouping. Use the "Add Calculation" option to add other conditions to a group, i.e. sales over $30M and assigned to Bob. The default setting will have two groups created, if you want to break the data into more groups, click "Add Segment." Finally, assign a name to the pins that don't fall into any of the groups you created, and click "OK."
7. CLICK "OK"
To edit the current segments you have, click the "Edit" icon. You can also add another tier of segments, by repeating steps 4-6. Once finished, click "OK."
8. CUSTOMIZE THE SEGMENTS
Once the segments are applied, you can use them individually in your analysis. You can customize the styling, add labels to the pins, create a heat map, apply coverage circles, or create an optimized route of the pins, for each distinct group.
